autobiography of red: talagang namumulang talambuhay

i just finished reading this novel earlier this week, during the typhoon holidays. it’s by anne carson.

i actually started reading this earlier this year. pero kasi sa sobrang ganda ng stylistics ay na-overwhelm ang lola niyo ng husto. ang ganda kasi e. it’s poetry pero prose pero…ah, very lyrical at maganda ang pulso ng words/sentences. and then of course, it’s very visual. napakaganda ng imagery. talagang nade-describe niya ng husto visually ang isang emotion, quirk, nuance, behavior or reaction ng characters, particularly yung “bida” na si geryon. ang galing.

this reminds me of the first time i discovered my favorite jeanette winterson. man, she blew my mind away. parang medyo pareho sila ng project ni anne carson, so to speak, meaning in terms of rewriting the stylistics of the narrative by simultaenously reinventing the content and form of the piece, and making it work so damn fine. ang galeng. very intelligent, but not head-splitting. very provocative but not commercially manipulative. very emotional but not mushy nor trite. grabe. ang galeng, period. you have to read it to experience it. yeah, that’s it e. it’s an experience reading it. ibang klase.

i’m a convert. i like anne carson na rin. i’m going to search for more of her books pa. panalo itong autobiography of red niya.

basa ka na rin.
